What is AVID?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing all students for college and other post-high school opportunities. AVID trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. - Taken from AVID's website.

What is student-centered teaching?

Paper Rater - use before you turn a paper in! Word and Google Docs miss a lot of grammar errors, and even spelling ones sometimes. Paper Rater.com is a free check that looks for lots of potential issues in a paper. It checks spelling, grammar, passive voice, transitional phrases, and more. (Remember that the "grade" given at the end is not necessarily the grade I will give you, because it's not looking for correctness of topic, if the text fits the assigned prompt etc but only looks for those English mechanics to be correct!)
